FAU's Eminent Scholars
The C. S. Mott Professor, an Eminent Scholar’s Chair in Community Education, housed in the College of Education at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, is responsible for providing visionary and pragmatic leadership for Community Education on local, state, national, and international levels.
The Eminent Scholar’s Chair in Community Education was established in 1981 as Florida Atlantic University’s first chair under the State of Florida program that matches $600,000 in private donations with $420,000 in state funds to set up a $1.02 million endowment. It was named in honor of Charles Stewart Mott of Flint, Michigan, who is credited with founding the modern Community Education movement that has seen public educational facilities used as year-around community schools and lifelong learning centers.
